The Art of Racing in the Rain

IMG_20130613_110008672529763I don’t know about you, but I don’t always automatically gravitate to breezy beach reads in the summer. I did, however, grab “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Garth Stein off the shelf a couple of days ago and was not disappointed.

The story is voiced by Enzo, the dog of a race car driver. Early on, Enzo learns through a documentary that Mongolians believe that the next incarnation for a dog is life as a man.

By truly listening and learning from the periphery, as only a dog can really do, he absorbs all aspects of human nature, either through the TV shows and documentaries he watches during the day, or through the true human interactions that take place around him.
