New releases in stock today.

Just a few new releases to mention this week. We have finally got a new camera so these blurry webcam shots will soon be a thing of the past. Also received a bunch of releases that will be available April 1st, but we’ll chat about that next Tuesday. On with the details for what is available now!

The Coathangers – Suck My Shirt
– LP and CD – First pressing LP on fluorescent lemon-lime vinyl is limited to 900 copies.
Suck My Shirt is the The Coathangers’ fourth full-length. The title refers to an incident involving the salvaging of spilled tequila during the recording session for the album. While the title implies that little has changed with regards to the band’s celebratory mission statement, even just a cursory listen of their latest album demonstrates that there have indeed been changes in The Coathangers’ camp. First off, the quartet was reduced to a trio for the latest record, with keyboardist Bebe Coathanger (Candice Jones) stepping down from her duties. But the absence of keyboards isn’t nearly as noticeable of a difference as the band’s refined songwriting approach.

Withered Hand – New Gods
– LP and CD
Active in the world of visual art and dabbling in music for many years, Withered Hand’s Dan Willson came late to singing and songwriting at age 30, in a period of reflection between the death of a close friend and the birth of his first child. The resultant material, much of which went on to become the album Good News, has been praised for its depth and startling honesty. A prolific live performer, recent Withered Hand shows have included collaborations with Pam Berry of seminal 90’s US noise-pop band Black Tambourine and a rotating cast of musical friends embellishing Dan’s exuberant and original songwriting alongside fragile and uplifting solo performances. The long-awaited second album (produced by Tony Doogan – Mountain Goats/Belle & Sebastian etc – and part-funded by arts council body Creative Scotland) features guest appearances from the likes of Pam Berry, Eugene Kelly of The Vaselines and members of Belle & Sebastian and Frightened Rabbit.

Sisyphus – Sisyphus
– LP and CD
Sisyphus is the new name for the collaboration between Serengeti, Son Lux, and Sufjan Stevens (formally s/s/s), whose new project under this moniker is a self-titled album partly inspired by the art of Jim Hodges, and commissioned by the Walker Art Center and The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra’s Liquid Music series in Minneapolis/Saint Paul.
