New Releases Nov13

Wilco – Star Wars
Star Wars is the Grammy-award winning band’s ninth studio album and its first since 2011’s The Whole Love. The new album was recorded at the band’s Chicago loft and features 11 original Wilco-penned tunes. Wilco is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary, and its label dBpm has recently released two anniversary-related collections: Alpha Mike Foxtrot, a box set of rarities and What’s Your 20?, a compilation of studio tracks from the band’s first eight albums.

Majical Cloudz – Are You Alone?
In 2013, the Canadian musical-performance art project Majical Cloudz released Impersonator, garnering praise as one of the year and the decade’s best and most notable albums. Since then, principal writer and vocalist Devon Welsh and producer Matthew Otto have been fastidiously crafting the band’s second studio album, Are You Alone?.

Building off a solidly-laid visual and sonic foundation, the conceptual narrative remains – simple yet emotionally forthcoming lyrics showcasing raw vulnerability, backed by sparse instrumentation and minimalist production. Welsh delivers melancholic but melody driven vocals echoing off elemental tones, praising love and friendship, commiserating over heartbreak and sadness. Written and recorded between Montreal and Detroit, Are You Alone? features drum, viola and piano support from Canadian composition genius Owen Pallett, known for his work with Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Death from Above 1979, and Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys. Coming as no surprise, Welsh and Otto have created another soulful novella, continuing to contribute to the evolution of sound in pop, indie, and electronic music.

The Crow – Original Score
The Crow: Music Composed And Conducted By Graeme Revell on 180g LP. Brandon Lee’s portrayal of The Crow in the 1990 film of the same name is one of the most enduring movie characters of the 1990’s and his accidental death while in the midst of filming has made him a cult fixture ever since. This pressing of The Crow: Music Composed And Conducted By Graeme Revell marks the first time any Crow score or soundtrack has ever been released on vinyl. The outer cover features a new comic book artist rendering of The Crow from a pivotal scene in the film. The original CD cover is represented on side 1 of the full color inner sleeve.
