Happy long weekend peeps! Another week has zipped by and again this week we have several new releases to feature. All the details are coming right up. We have recently taken in 2 pretty significant record collections and hope to get some of the sweet stuff out into the shop soon, maybe even if you come in today you can have a dig before we “officially” get them out.

We will be closed this Monday for the holiday, sorry for any inconvenience but we are sure looking forward to a day off to hang out with “The Boss”.

Matt Andersen – Honest Man

Produced in New York with Commissioner Gordon (Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, KRS-One), Honest Man follows up the JUNO Award nominated Weightless and sees the songwriter pushing himself into new territory. Blessed with a rich gospel soul voice and armed with a new set of songs, Matt Andersen found a perfect partner in crime with Commissioner Gordon.
“Gordon has worked with so many different people, like Santana and Quincy Jones, on so many historic albums,” says Andersen. “He has such a great approach and was able to tie-in so many new ideas to what I’ve done in the past without losing touch with my sound.”
From writing around drum beats to bringing in a cast of players including Andy Bassford (Toots and the Maytals, Burning Spear, Natalie Merchant) Benji Bouton (Ibibio Sound Machine), Josh David Barret (The Wailers, Lauryn Hill), and Lenny Underwood (Mary J. Blige, Amy Winehouse), Honest Man expands on what we already know and love from Andersen and brings it to a new level.

Babymetal – Metal Resistance

Formed in 2010, BABYMETAL performed their headline show, 2 DAYS in a row, at the prestigious Nippon Budokan in March 2014, becoming the youngest female artist in history to perform there. Their first album “BABYMETAL” ranked in the US Billboard chart. In summer of 2014, they embarked on their first World Tour, supporting Lady Gaga on her “Artrave: The Artpop Ball” tour in 5 cities in North America. In 2015, their second World Tour ensues taking them to 10 countries which includes North America, Latin America, Canada and Europe. BABYMETAL also headlines 3 arena shows in Japan at Saitama Super Arena, Makuhari Messe and Yokohama Arena in that same year. They’ve won several awards including the “Breakthrough Act” award at the 2015 Metal Hammer Golden Gods, the “Spirit of Independence” award at the 2015 Relentless Kerrang! Awards, and several LOUDWIRE Awards. They will be performing a headline show at the London’s Wembley SSE Arena, once again being the first Japanese artist in history to perform there. Their third World Tour will come to an end with a headline show back in Japan at the legendary TOKYO DOME. The time has come for us to go across borders to connect and bring everyone together with BABYMETAL’s “ METAL RESISTANCE”.

Doomsquad – Total Time

Doomsquad is psychedelic electronic dance music from Toronto, Canada. Having formed in 2010, siblings Trevor, Jaclyn, and Allie Blumas soon began to explore trance and electronic beat making. Their shared fascination with dance culture, rhythm, and the unknown, along with their lifelong immersion in the arts, began to manifest as a collective ethos. Before long, Doomsquad had mushroomed into a full-scale art project.
Inspired by some of their favourite artists — Georges Bataille, Richard Tuttle, Tanya Tagaq, and Genesis P-Orridge — Doomsquad traveled to the New Mexican desert last year to write and record their sophomore album, Total Time, out 29 April on Bella Union and Hand Drawn Dracula. The album opens with the enticing dance of ‘Who Owns Noon in Sandusky,’ which was written to inspire the nakedness in us all, a song to wake up our inner clocks and reclaim our circadian time. ‘Solar Ass’ was written as a love song to a donkey, a song for paying respect to the smaller, under-appreciated elements that carry us through our contemporary lives. Total Time is dark, pulsating beats interspersed with hypnotic, incantatory jams. Its songs are meant to lead you through a gender-less experience of transition to owning time, losing time, and becoming timeless, while providing a platform for you to dance through your consciousness.

Yoni & Geti – Testarossa

When we last left David Cohn (Serengeti) and Yoni Wolf, it was 2011—the year of the Rabbit, the year of Occupy Wall Street, and their first collaborative album, Serengeti’s Family & Friends. Somewhere amidst Charlie Sheen’s meltdown and Oprah’s last episode, the duo dropped one of the most simultaneously bleak and hilarious song cycles ever conceived, replete with tales of bigamy, reinventions of self, addiction, and disgraced UFC fighters. Woe leavened by whimsy.
A half-decade later, Serengeti and Wolf (principal songsmith of the band WHY?), have returned with Testarossa. Due in May 2016 on Joyful Noise Recordings, it soundtracks a script the pair penned while on tour together. Every song conceptualizes the saga of star-crossed lovers, Maddy and Davy.
As always, there’s the undercurrent of sadness and regrets, sin and repentance, the juxtaposition of bleak reality, the surreal, and dark humor. It’s a dirty, weird and brilliant album that becomes more stark and visceral with every listen. This is love and willful destruction sharing a beer and a shot—the soundtrack to wrong decisions and crooked twists of fate.

Richard Ashcroft – These People

These People is the first new album in six years from the Brit and Ivor Novello award winning and Grammy nominated artist. Recorded in London, it was produced by Richard and longtime collaborator Chris Potter, as well as marking a reunion with Wil Malone, who worked with Richard on the string arrangements on the seminal albums by The Verve A Northern Soul (1995), Urban Hymns (1997), and his platinum-selling and critically acclaimed debut solo album Alone with Everybody (2000).
Equally channeling his classic output and exploring adventurous new sounds, textures and themes, and graced by one of the most singular and unforgettable voices in British music, These People reaffirms him as one of the most defining and prodigious songwriters of his generation.
