Let’s dig into the new releases!

Telekinesis – Effluxion
The fifth full length album he’s recorded as Telekinesis is perfect, unfussy power pop— romantic and hopeful and skittish and fresh and familiar, with hooks in all the right places. He called the album Effluxion because he too found the word a little alien when he first heard it in passing, but it also captured the spirit in which the album was made. After Lerner largely traded guitars and drums for moodier synthesizers and drum machines on 2015’s Ad Infinitum—more OMD than GBV—Scottish indie-pop gods Teenage Fanclub invited Lerner on board as a touring member in 2017. In addition to this being genie-lamp wish fulfillment for a devoted acolyte, playing those songs every night with his heroes brought him back to known pleasures. Effluxion is a back-to-basics album—not just in its reaffirmation of the sound and style that made Lerner an indie wunderkind a decade ago at age 22, but in the way it was created. Using the same now-discontinued MacBook microphone he used to record his earliest tracks, he holed up in the basement of his West Seattle home and put the album together piece by piece over the past two years, playing every instrument. While previous albums had former Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla—who discovered and championed Telekinesis’ demos—and Spoon’s Jim Eno serving as producers and sounding boards and sidemen and general voices of authority and experience, Lerner wanted to do this one entirely on his own. Telekinesis has internalized the science of catchiness and understands what makes certain kinds of songs evoke certain kinds of chemical reactions. Hooks flow in, hooks flow out.

Pom Poko – Birthday
Pure Norwegian Punky Sweetness. A punk attitude combined with a nerdy knowledge of pop history, makes for an explosive package often compared to Le Tigre, Deerhoof and Duchess Says. Sweet sing-song vocals are mixed with intense grooves, bouncy guitars and crazy riffs, and make Pom Poko a feat to behold live. Reduce the testosterone, increase the sugar rush, and get ready for this K-PUNK explosion.
Despite forming just a little more than a year and a half year ago, the band are on a rapid ascent with their three officially released singles gaining praise for their ingenuity and energy. Pom Poko has already been praised by the likes Interview Magazine, The Line of Best Fit, The Independent, Clash, DIY, and NME.

Claypool Lennon Delirium – South of Reality
South Of Reality, The Claypool Lennon Delirium’s epic sophomore album might be just the antidote this sick world needs. Music so potent it could repel an asteroid impact from space, these seasoned warriors of psychedelia have crafted timeless songs that may as well be chiseled in stone. The monolithic dream team’s new record was produced by Les Claypool and Sean Lennonthemselves, and engineered and mixed by Les Claypool at his own Rancho Relaxo studio in Sonoma County, California.
Grab your goggles and a month’s supply of Kool-Aid because The Claypool Lennon Delirium is about to take you for a ride on a rock ‘n’ roll rocket ship, and frankly you may never come back!

Dream Theater – Distance Over Time
Distance Over Time is the band’s 14th studio album. For this record, the band approached things a little differently. For the first time, the bandmates lived, wrote and recorded together at the secluded Yonderbarn studios in Monticello, NY over the course of four months. For the new album, the band wanted to return to their roots and produce a more organic record. Despite these changes however, Dream Theater upholds their unique signature of combining metallic aggression and progressive scope and puts it in a frame of tighter songwriting.

Czarface & Ghostface – Czarface Meets Ghostface
Fresh off 2018’s collaborative LP with the enigmatic MF Doom, “Czarface Meets Metal Face”, the adventure continues as Czarface now faces off with Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah. “Czarface meets Ghostface” brings strictly mind melting beats and bars as 3 emcees clash like villains and heroes in the Savage Land. Czarface, a hip-hop and comics force comprised of Wu-Tang Clan General Inspectah Deck, Esoteric (who recently penned an X-Men comic for Marvel) and super producer 7L team up with Ghostface aka Iron-Man aka Tony Starks for murderous mayhem!

LCD Soundsystem – Electric Lady Sessions
LCD Soundsystem have released “Electric Lady Sessions”, their new 12 Track live album recorded at the titular New York City studio. It features covers of Chic’s I Want Your Love and the Heaven 17 song (We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang in addition to the band’s take on Seconds by the Human League. Electric Lady Sessions was recorded amidst LCD Soundsystem’s tour behind their comeback album American Dream, their first studio record in 8 years. Electric Lady Sessions is a live collection featuring classic LCD Soundsystem songs, three covers, and newer material from the band’s number 1 album from 2018, American Dream.
