Here’s a few recent vinyl releases that arrived this week. The latest from Felt “Felt 4 U” has been released on vinyl along with the much-awaited reissue of Jonsi’s “Go” plus a couple of Baroness 2xLP picture disc reissues. Felt – Felt 4 U (Pink and Teal Vinyl)After an 11-year hiatus, Murs and Slug are back with their fourth Felt album, “Felt 4 U”. While their personal relationship is fundamental to Felt’s legacy, with their comradery establishing itself as a driving force for their creativity, the production on Felt albums has also been a major part of their success. With notable changes in the sonic backdrops for each album, the MC’s were allowed to share a unique side of themselves each release, while fine-tuning their styles and showcasing their own growth. A lot has changed since their last release in 2009, including for Murs and Slug themselves in both their personal and professional lives. Their careers have continued to elevate and their families have continued to grow, and this fourth album is something of a reflection of those changes, starting with the title of the project itself. Even amidst the changes we still find familiarities, like Ant making a return to handle full production on “Felt 4 U”. Sonically, the album is overflowing with the influences of funk, soul, blues and even country flavors. This is a distinctly summery album, with the richness of Ant’s production creating an overall warmth that envelops the whole project.
Jonsi – Go (Red Vinyl)Sigur Rós front man Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson released his debut album ‘Go’ in 2010. Jónsi initially thought he would be making a low-key, acoustic album until, as he says, “somewhere along the line, it just sort of exploded.” that explosion resulted in sheer aural fireworks. not a straight ahead pop record, nor rock, folk, ambient or electronic, it encompasses all of these to create an expansive musical palette that’s been brought to life by Jónsi alongside a number of free-spirited collaborators including the Philip Glass protégé Nico Muhly and the percussive genius of Samuli Kosminen.
Met with great critical acclaim Go is out of press and will be repressed on exclusive transparent red vinyl and released on Sigur Rós own record label, Krunk.
Baroness – Blue Record (Picture Disc)Blue Record announces the re-awakening of Savannah’s rock giants BARONESS. Blue Record is an instant classic, with all the peaks and valleys, textures, and nuances that timeless records yield over repeated listens.
