Record Store Day 2015 – Why bother with an official list?

Well it has been a few weeks and there are only a handful more items added, we’ve reached the limit I guess. This is the last update we are doing, so this is the “official” list of what has been made available to order here in Canada and the estimated prices for April 18th and if we have it on order. Wow, so we got us an official Canadian Record Store Day list today. A few of the missing pieces have been solved, Death From Above 1979 is a Canadian only release, along with releases from Chris Koster, Mohrs, Mellisa Payne, Theory Of A Deadman, a casette from K.I.D and a handful more looking to be Canadian only releases currently. So go check out that official Canadian Record Store Day list (it’s on Facebook only – Click Here), because if you were hunting something down you saw on the US list and it isn’t on the Canadian list, chances are it won’t be available here in the great white. So here is the latest list from us, again, these are things that we are able to order for April 18th, regardless what Record Store Day list they are on or if they are on any list at all.

Here we go good people, we’ve now added over 100 new exclusive releases plus we’ve put our estimated prices for Record Store Day. Of course mistakes happen and things change so this list is not official pricing, that will only happen when the price sticker is put on, but it looks like this will be 95% accurate at least. You know we think you are awesome so we will definately have a sale on Record Store Day since it is also our store anniversary and it will always include discounts on the RSD releases, but we will have more details on that as the day gets closer. It is going to be a blast!
I know we keep mentioning it and quite a few of you have told us what you are looking to get your hands on for Record Store Day, not only does it help us with ordering it gives you the best chance of actually aquiring that limited release.

– UPDATE – MARCH 11, 2015 –

Well with the official Record Store Day release list announced yesterday we’ve have done a huge update as to what is now available to us and what we have on order from distribution, some titles aren’t there yet to be ordered but I’m sure they will be added soon. I’ve added another column that includes if the title is listed as an official Record Store Day release, it will be indicated if it is on the US or UK list.  Obviously things will get added to the official lists and we will update accordingly. We haven’t received any official word on Canadian exclusives yet either. On with the list!

– UPDATE – MARCH 7, 2015 –

Monster update today, everything fresh is in BOLD. We are now up to nearly 350 releases coming out on April 18th. I certainly expect this list to grow some after the official list comes on on Tuesday. We now are showing what we have on order for Record Store Day. We are not going to be ordering everything, just focusing on stuff we know our customers will be into and things that aren’t outrageous prices. So no 7″ that will be in the mid to high teens, even $20+, very few albums that will be $35+ unless they are something special and worthy of those kinda of price tags. If you are on the hunt for something we don’t currently have on order let us know and we will do our best to get it in for you.

– UPDATE – MARCH 5, 2015 –

We’ve added over 20 titles today, this list is getting big fast. White Stripes album “Get Behind Me Satan” is on there now, along with Dead Milkmen’s “Beelzebubba”. One thing I will share here is the prices (in Canada at least) are going to be pretty crazy from what we can see. Are you willing to pay $50+ for the White Stripes? How about nearly $40 for the Dead Milkmen? Sure there will be some 7″ singles for $7-$8 , but most are going to be in the $13-$17 range, ouch. Curious if this is going to hold you people back or are you all in no matter what? I’ve opened up comments for this post, so let us know.

– UPDATE – MARCH 3, 2015 –

Just added another 30+ titles to the release list below for Record Store Day 2015. Scary thing is there are probable another 300 to come still! I’m not going to track the stuff that is on rumoured lists anymore since the official list is just around the corner. The BOLD items are the new titles I added today. Soon I will update the list with what we have on order so you can best plan your Record Store Day and let us know if we haven’t got the title your looking for coming in. We can’t order everything when there are that many releases coming out so we are counting on you to let us know what you are hunting down for the big day.

Hey good people! So yup, it’s that time of year I start rambling on about Record Store Day. It is April 18th, 2015 this time around, of course that date is always close to our store anniversary (April 20th) so we like to do something that weekend to celebrate both. We will have more on that sort of stuff closer to the time but for now we are going to dig into what Record Store Day releases we might be seeing this year.

The official release list is supposed to be out early March but we’ve already seen hints as to what might be on that official list from other site’s like Wax Poetic (Check it here), Exlaim.ca (Check it here), and Modern Vinyl (Check it here). What we are going to dig into here are the titles that have already been made available to us for ordering (this started in January). It’s tough to order when you don’t know what will really be on the official list since the past few years some labels are just releasing stuff on this day now to kind of take advantage of you good people. The only reason I’m pointing this out is because the list here has over 160 releases for us to order now, of those 160+ releases only 30 are even on the rumoured lists for Record Store Day 2015. So, are these releases going to be on the official list or is it just some labels taking advantage of a major release day? We won’t know until March when the official list finally shows up. So here’s the list (so far) of what’s available to us for ordering to be released on April 18, 2015.

I’m not one that likes to rant and point out all the crazy and annoying things that go on with Record Store Day and I will try not too again after this post today. Because hey, it is always a fun day here, a reason to have a party and it is truly a day to encourage you to shop at your local indie record shop, and certainly helps bring some attention to us and what we are doing here at Backbeat and for that alone we will always participate.
