A Nice Pair: R.E.M.

It’s Sunday which means it’s time for A Nice Pair: book and vinyl pairings that go together like a rainy day and saved plans. Today we’re teaming up the book Listen Up!: Recording Music with Bob Dylan, Neil Young, U2, R.E.M., The Tragically Hip, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Waits by Mark Howard with the album Automatic for the People by R.E.M.

Listen Up! pulls back the curtains on the producer and recording engineer side of music making. Its Grammy Award-winning author has worked with some of the world’s most iconic musicians and this book acts as both a production guide and a backstage pass.

Originally recorded in 1992, Automatic for the People is R.E.M.’s eight studio album. Having reached multi-platinum status, it features such hits as Everybody Hurts, Man on the Moon and Drive.
