A Nice Pair: Pulp

It’s Sunday, and we’re back with another Nice Pair: books and vinyl pairings that go together like dads and silly nicknames. Today we’re pairing the book Good Pop, Bad Pop: An Inventory by Jarvis Cocker with the album More by Pulp.

Good Pop, Bad Pop is less a traditional memoir and more a rummage through his past via the objects Jarvis Cocker’s hoarded over the years. As he clears out his loft, each item – from a vintage sweater to a plaster cast of his teeth – sparks reflections on his life, music, and pop culture, reimagining the past as a lighthearted journey of self-discovery. It’s a charming and personal dive into how everyday objects can spark imagination and preserve the past.

Pulp’s More is their first new studio album in 24 years. It blends fresh material with revived ideas from their past, including contributions from Steve Mackey, their late bassist who passed away in 2023. The first single, Spike Island, dropped in April 2025, followed by Got to Have Love in May 2025. The album climbed to the top of the UK album charts – a first for Pulp since This Is Hardcore in 1998.
