It’s Sunday which means it’s time for A Nice Pair: book and record pairings that go together like fall and cozy sweaters. Today we’re pairing the book My Effin’ Life by Geddy Lee with Rush’s self-titled first album.
My Effin’ Life is the long-awaited memoir from Rush bassist, Geddy Lee, which covers his time inside and outside the band. Lee stands among the most revered bassists in rock history. For close to fifty years, his dynamic musicianship – spanning bass, vocals, keyboards and songwriting – has been a driving force behind the enduring legacy of Rush, Canada’s iconic progressive rock trio.
Rush’s self-titled album was their first studio album. Originally released in Canada in a limited run in 1974 on their own label, Moon Records, it was subsequently released internationally by Mercury Records later that year. The lyrics were entirely composed by vocalist/bassist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson and the album features a hard rock sound with songs such as Working Man and In the Mood.
