A Nice Pair: The Grateful Dead

It’s Sunday which means it’s time for A Nice Pair – book and music pairings that go together like a blissful extra hour of sleep and Daylight Savings Time. Today we’re pairing the book Deal: My Three Decades of Drumming, Dreams, and Drugs with the Grateful Dead by Bill Kreutzmann and The Grateful Dead’s Gratest Hits.

Bill Kreutzmann’s Deal is an unfiltered memoir that dives deep into his life as one of the Grateful Dead’s founding drummers. It’s a behind-the-scenes swirl of psychedelic jams, backstage madness, and the highs and lows of chasing musical freedom. Kreutzmann doesn’t hold back – he shares the joy, the chaos, and the cost of living the Deadhead dream.

The Grateful Dead’s official greatest hits album, Gratest Hits, was released in June 2025 to celebrate the band’s 60th anniversary. It features nine iconic tracks spanning from 1970 to 1987 such as Truckin, Touch of Grey and Friend of the Devil. It’s pressed on Light Blue Vinyl.
