Before we dive into today’s Nice Pair, just a reminder that we’re open extra hours for you this week: we’re here today until 4 pm, Monday 11-5, Tuesday 11-5 and Wednesday 11-3.
And now, onto this week’s book and vinyl pairing! Today’s mashup is Ray Robertson’s latest book Dust: More Lives of the Poets (With Guitars) and The Muddy Waters Woodstock Album.
In Dust: More Lives of the Poets (with Guitars), Canadian author Ray Robertson’s has created a collection of twelve biographical and critical portraits of influential, innovative, and sometimes overlooked twentieth‑century musicians. He explores these artists whose work spans across rock, folk, blues, gospel, and country, capturing both their artistry and their flaws. It honours the artists who influenced him while encouraging readers to discover—or rediscover—their music.
One of the twelve artists featured in the book is Muddy Waters. The Muddy Waters Woodstock Album is a 2023 Record Store Day Release that comes in a limited edition special gatefold. Originally Waters’ final album for Chess Records and winner of the 1978 Grammy for Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording, this RSD pressing features the full original tracklist, including Why Are People Like That, and Let the Good Times Roll.
