A Nice Pair: Metallica

It’s Sunday which means it’s time for A Nice Pair: our weekly series where we pair up books and vinyl. Today we’re matching up the book Metallica: This Monster Lives by Joe Berlinger with Greg Milner with Metallica’s Black Album.

Filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky followed the band over two and a half years over an extremely tumultuous time, just as they returned to the studio to record their album St. Anger. The resulting project was the documentary film Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. This book shares the story of the band through the filmmakers’ unique access, including group therapy sessions and multiple band meetings, and captures the band’s extreme highs and lows. It weaves the on-screen stories with what happened off-screen, providing intimate details only someone so close to the band could.

We’re pairing it with Metallica’s best-selling album of all time, their self-titled album commonly known as The Black Album. Their fifth studio album, it features hits such as Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters.
