A Nice Pair: Rickie Lee Jones

It’s Sunday, it’s a new week, a new month and it’s time for A Nice Pair! Today we’re pairing Rickie Lee Jones’ book Last Chance Texaco: Chronicles of an American Troubador with her album Pirates.

Rickie Lee Jones burst into the spotlight in 1979 after performing Chuck E’s in Love on Saturday Night live, instantly becoming a defining voice of L.A.’s jazz‑pop scene and earning the nickname “Duchess of Coolsville.” Last Chance Texaco tells her story – from a wandering childhood and years on the run to her rise at the Troubadour, her turbulent love affair with Tom Waits and her fight to stay afloat in the music world. It’s a collection of intimate, previously untold moments from an artist who helped shape American culture for generations. We currently have both new and used copies in stock.

The follow-up to her debut album, Pirates is partially an account of her break-up with fellow musician Tom Waits. It blends jazz, pop, and cinematic storytelling. and featured songs such as We Belong Together and Living It Up.
