A Nice Pair: Bruce Springsteen

It’s Sunday which means it’s time for A Nice Pair – our weekly book and vinyl series. Today we’re pairing the book Bruce by Peter Ames Carlin with Darkness on the Edge of Town by Bruce Springsteen.

Written with Bruce Springsteen’s cooperation, Bruce paints an intimate portrait of The Boss. Acclaimed music writer Peter Ames Carlin has provided a must-read book for fans of the rock icon. Meticulously researched and compulsively readable, it’s the depiction of a man laden with family tragedy, all-consuming passion and a tremendous dedication to his artistry. He masterfully encompasses the breadth of Springsteen’s multi-decade award=winning career and explores the evolution of a man who redefined generations of music.

Released in 1978, Darkness on the Edge of Town is Springsteen’s fourth studio album. His rule when choosing songs for the final track list was that “Each song had to remain sober and austere, so as to convey its message as effectively as possible.” The final album ended up with ten tracks, including hits such as Prove It All Night and Badlands.
