Going to post some new releases that just came in the store. But in spirit of Valentine’s Day all I want to first say is, it is Friday I’m In Love to My Funny Valentine, and it’s cool to be able to spend so much time together.
At Backbeat we also love our customers, so we hope you aren’t loveless today or thinking I’ll Never Fall In Love Again because sometimes Love Bites and you feel that No Ones Gonna Love You. So for you folks I say Let There Be Love, perhaps even a Whole Lotta Love.
For those of you looking forward to romantic evening, maybe some Crazy Love, Loud Love, Modern Love or heck maybe Love In An Elevator, enjoy your night.
I should offer a little advice here for Two Young Lovers. Love Me Two Times, is way better to say than Hurry Make Love when it comes to this Crazy Little Thing Called Love.
Just remember, All You Need Is Love and Love Spreads, so share your love with someone today.
Love,
Backbeat Books and Music
Okay enough of that lovey lovey stuff, let’s get on with the releases! My personal pick from all these releases really surprised me! I was sure it would be Band of Horses or Broken Bells that really stood out, and although they are both pretty darn good it is Jamestown Revival that has really impressed me.
Band of Horses – Acoustic at the Ryman – LP / CD
Acoustic at The Ryman, a 10-song virtual greatest hits set of acoustic renditions of songs from across the Band of Horses catalog, recorded at Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium over two magical nights in April 2013.

Broken Bells – After the Disco – LP / CD
Sophomore album from the musical partnership comprised of Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) and James Mercer (The Shins). A short-film prologue to the album, “Part One: Angel and The Fool,” is on YouTube, and an interview with the duo and NPR’s Bob Boilen can be heard on “All Songs Considered.” The duo’s Grammy-nominated debut, Broken Bells, reached the Billboard Top 10 in its release week.

Speedy Ortiz – Real Hair – LP
Limited ORANGE vinyl edition with bonus temporary tattoos!! Too Cool! On Speedy Ortiz’s Real Hair, the band sets a course between the knotty discord of debut album Major Arcana and the pop bonafides of the preceding Sports EP. Recorded and mixed by Paul Q. Kolderie (Pixies Radiohead), the new EP finds them subtly adding new techniques to their songbook. Guitarists Sadie Dupuis and Matt Robidoux bring on additional guitar effects to color the roundabout feel of ‘Oxygal’, while bassist Darl Ferm mand drummer Mike Falcone hit hard to deliver the jumpin- the-pit urgency of ‘American Horror’. From the vocal melodies to the no-nonsense guitar turns, this is Speedy’s catchiest outing yet.
We will only get one copy of the limited Orange, but after it’s gone we can still get the standard edition.

Tackhead – For The Love of Money – LP (limited to 500 copies, we will likely only get one copy and it’s here now)
They have performed hits for millions of music fans. The list of their clients is long — in fact it couldn’t be any longer and it includes some of the most illustrious names around: The Rolling Stones, Seal, Annie Lennox, Madonna, Mick Jagger, Nine Inch Nails, Lauryn Hill, Mos Def, R.E.M., Charlie Watts, Tina Turner, Miles Davis, Peter Gabriel, James Brown, Depeche Mode, Malcolm McLaren, George Clinton, Herbie Hancock, Duran Duran, BB King, The Cure, Donna Summer, Billy Idol, Al Green, African Bambaata, Mark Stewart, and many, many more. They are more than just highly-talented individual artists and absolute luminaries in their field. The New York Times once called them “one of today’s most extraordinary rhythm sections.” They aren’t just musicians, but also producers, remixers and friends and supporters of fellow musicians. Now, after 23 years, finally there is a new album — and it almost exclusively features cover versions of artists who have inspired TACK>>HEAD.

+/- – Jumping the Tracks – LP
INYL ONLY RELEASE on ORANGE VINYL. 5th album from NYC’s +/- (Plus/Minus) & their 1st in over 4 years. There are 8 new songs on the LP joined 4 more on the download card. Jamestown Revival – Utah – LP / CD
Jamestown Revival’s first full-length album. It’s heavily autobiographical, telling the stories of their adventures, their discomforts, and their observations. In order to capture the spirit of the music, the two found a log cabin high within the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. The pair, along with their band and engineer, set out to convert it in to a temporary recording studio. With wild moose right outside the window, and aspen leaves spinning in the wind, they tracked 14 songs. Performed live, with no headphones, and entirely to tape, the process captured the moments in the room.
