Let’s Get Caught Up

It’s Friday!
We’ve got lots of new and recent new releases to feature today since we skipped posting about releases last week.
We know we’ll be getting asked about Taylor Swift‘s 1989 (TV) that’s released today. Unfortunately, the warehouse in Canada is still waiting for copies to arrive from Universal Music but we should have them in next week. If you haven’t already put your name down for a copy, get in touch!

On to the new releases that you can get right now here at Backbeat!

The Mountain Goats – Jenny From Thebes (Indie Exclusive)
“Jenny From Thebes” began its life as many albums by The Mountain Goats do, with John Darnielle playing the piano until a lyric emerged. That lyric, “Jenny was a warrior/Jenny was a thief/Jenny hit the corner clinic begging for relief” became “Jenny III”, a song which laid down a challenge he’d never taken up before: writing a sequel to one of his most beloved albums.

The Gaslight Anthem – History Books (Indie Exclusive)
Like so many of the most essential rock bands, The Gaslight Anthem have a rare gift for finding glory in the inescapable pain of being alive. On their new album History Books—their first new music in over nine years—the New Jersey-bred four-piece bring their soulful breed of punk to ten thrilling songs exploring everything from mortality to mental illness to the more precarious dimensions of human connection.

Exhumed – Gore Metal (25th Anniversary)
Gore Metal Maniacs EXHUMED released the 25 year anniversary deluxe reissue of their legendary debut album Gore Metal! Fully remastered audio of the original mix by Arthur Rizk (Kreator, Cavalera, Power Trip, and more,) Gore Metal now features expanded artwork, live tracks (digital only), and liner notes!

Autopsy – Ashes, Organs, Blood and Crypts

The ninth full-length studio album of savage, bludgeoning death metal from the uncompromising death metal legends, Autopsy. Ashes, Organs, Blood & Crypts was recorded at Sharkbite Studios by Scott Evans and Greg Wilkinson, with additional tracking and mixing carried out at Earhammer studios by Greg Wilkinson.

The Shins – Chutes Too Narrow (20th Anniversary Edition) (Loser Edition)
This 2023 edition of The Shins’ beloved second album, “Chutes Too Narrow”, celebrates its 20th anniversary with a fresh remaster by Adam Ayan, supervised by band leader James Mercer, and lovely new packaging for the vinyl.

Sampha – Lahai (Indie Exclusive)
Spanning jazz, soul, rap, dance, jungle, and west African music, producer and singer-songwriter Sampha presents his highly-anticipated sophomore release, “Lahai”. Taken from his paternal grandfather’s name, “Lahai” revels in the awe and magic of our existence, synthesizing the exquisite chaos that one experiences confronting the cycle of life and the beyondness.

Goat – Medicine
It is hard to know how many times the mythology and mystery of Goat’s backstory can be written about, but new release ‘Medicine’ does away with any need to dwell on the past, returning with a more introspective, slightly mellower psych-folk sound that remains recognisably them.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (Soundtrack) (Limited Zoetrope Edition)

The soundtrack to the holiday film, The Nightmare Before Christmas, features Danny Elfman, who has scored many of Tim Burton’s imaginative films (Edward Scissorhands, his two Batman films, etc.), is a perfect musical partner for the somewhat macabre director, and never more so than here, where, in fact, Elfman gets not only to write the music but to play the part of the main character. Arkells – Laundry Pile
Laundry Pile is a decidedly intimate release: a chapter that documents some of the messy parts of life that end up teaching you what’s most important. Arkells have multiple platinum & gold singles/albums + 9 JUNO Award wins – having won Group of the Year more than any other act.

Rival Sons – Lightbringer
The eighth album (second this year) by Rival Sons. Lightbringer, guitarist Scott Holiday said, “When you do two albums back-to-back like this, there are a lot of things to think about. The first record has to pack enough of a punch and tell enough of a story for the second half to have an even bigger impact.”

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – MOJO
Limited-edition translucent ruby red double vinyl LP pressing. What makes Mojo special is that it was recorded live in the band’s legendary rehearsal space, ”The Clubhouse” in Los Angeles. There are no over-dubs or studio trickery. What you hear is what Tom and the Heartbreakers created live at that time.

We also did receive the latest Rolling Stones and Blink-182 but have already sold out. Get in touch with us to be put on the list for when more copies arrive of either of those two.
