Authors for Indies – May 2, 2015

AuthorsforIndies

As an independent bookseller, we’re really excited that we can now unveil a unique upcoming event that we’re participating in…Authors for Indies! We’ve been working hard behind the scenes on this one and now the secret’s out!

What is Authors for Indies, you ask? It’s an event supporting independent bookstores and it’s scheduled to take place at participating independent bookstores nationwide on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Local authors will be volunteering at independent bookstores across Canada…they’ll be greeting customers, recommending books, and highlighting the importance of supporting independent bookshops in Canada. The goals of Authors for Indies are to increase customer traffic, raise awareness of the importance of independent bookstores, strengthen relationships between authors and booksellers, and showcase local writers.

Backbeat Books & Music is participating alongside more than 100 bookstores that have already signed up! This is a unique opportunity for authors to show their gratitude to booksellers.

So, to the fun stuff…who’s coming to Backbeat? On May 2nd, we invite you and your friends to come and meet Charles de Lint (Ottawa-based award-winning author of over seventy adult, young adult, and children’s books) and his wife MaryAnn Harris who will performing an in-house music set for us with Charles, Julie Paul (Victoria-based author of two short story collections – formerly of Lanark Village) whose visit will also include a reading from her latest book The Pull of the Moon, and Liane Shaw (Lanark Village-based author of three YA novels and one non-fiction book).

We’ll give you lots more info along the way…in the meantime, make sure to keep Saturday,  May 2nd free to come on by the shop! It’s going to be a great day!
